Blog Post 3

In the readings from Warner and Zaeske, it is clear that public space was gendered. In any public audience we observe the people around us. We then alter our words and actions to this audience, so I think this is something that will always go on but gets better all the time. In the reading by Warner, it is said "publicness is simply this space of coming together that discloses itself in interaction." We experience publicness everyday, and women have been seen as less than man for years and years.

Women didn't have a say in politics or important matters for centuries, and stayed at home to look after children. In the reading by Zaeske it is said "Not only was the injunction against addressing "promiscuous audiences" gender specific, but it carried great force because of the way it drew upon and reinforced deeply-rooted myths about women and their proper role in politics." Since audiences were so gender specific myths and rumors of women came into play.

Women today still get public space and are judged by actions everyday. By what is worn, the way they act, and work ethic women get attacked all the time. The difference with today is that the attacks come through social media, which can be very hurtful. Men expect respect from women, and some still expect certain chores and characteristics. Women are evolving, and they are slowly able to be more free and open and free.
