Blog post 7/15 - Dan

The focus of the two article is the relationship between the audience/speaker dynamic and the cultural  lenses that this crosses. The Promiscuous Audience article discusses the initial difficulties that women had to negotiate in order to be heard and gain attention as orators in America. They had to overcome public suspicion and being categorically discredited due to their gender, perceived education, intelligence, and social status.
The Publics and Counterpublics article describes this hurdle a little more in depth. Public culture, suspicions, organization, and social history all skew presentation of rhetoric. For the purpose of these two articles it is apparent how women's history within the public context acted as a hinderance to overcome.
