Blog Post #3 - Angelie

From what I originally knew, women and men did not have equal rights. Men where always more superior than women, and women generally couldn't do anything to change this. it wasn't until the counter public came and women wanted the same treatment as men. they wanted to be seen as their equals. the difference between the public and counterpublic is that in the public, everyone agrees on whats the norm, while in the counterpublic people chose to voice their opinion and go against what is commonly accepted.

historically, men didn't let women speak their minds or take the lead in public spaces. women couldn't do much but sit back and accept it. the couterpublic gave women a voice and they wanted it to be heard. in my opinion, the gendering of public spaces is not really seen in today's society. I believe their is too many ways to get your voice heard for it to be silenced, especially because you're a women. I do believe though that there are other groups who get silenced way worse than women, such as the African American community and LGBTQ+ community. also, with the new feminist movement that we've been seeing and hearing a lot lately, women are taking control of their voice, and speaking up for what they believe in.
