Just like Saint Catherine, the political party's believe in what they are trying to persuade others to believe. Fleckenstein writes "I deliberately refer to Catherine's image event rather than image events to emphasize that the saint's entire body of work- her visual discourse across all of her writing and preaching, her service to the poor, and her physical acts of penance- combine to shape an image event of her life." What I got from this excerpt was that Catherine not only talked about what she wanted others to believe, she centered her whole life around it. This helped with persuasion because just like in today's society, people rather see than hear.

Blog Post #2 - Angelie
According to the reading, Fleckenstein defines the term "image event" as "a visual performance, scripted or spontaneous, that carries persuasive power." To me, an image event is seen a lot in today's society. I would describe an image event as something that can be seen(visual) that is done with the soul purpose of changing your opinion on an issue/topic. This type of persuasive power can be seen in political debates. these debates are set up and planned months in advance with the goal to persuade it's viewers to vote/side with set party. these events are scripted, so scripted that each party even practices it's responses to test questions. Sometimes, the debates don't go as planned so there is a chance that each person may have to come up with a spontaneous answer.
