QQC #1

Quote: "In the Sophists' view, because the exploration of opposing views has to be conducted through language, which is fraught with emotional and cultural baggage, it can never be "objective" in the modern sense. The Sophists sought to call attention to the function of language in inducing belief, rather than encouraging audiences to give themselves up uncritically to its power to move and persuade."

Question: What made the rhetorician, Gorgias, different from other rhetoricians?

  1. I saw Gorgias as a used different genres and had his own style, unlike others who followed a pattern with their time or background, he had his own style and way to make a piece unique to him. The quote above was eye catching and I took the meaning I got from the quote and understood it.

  2. I agree with Rayunna. Gorgias possessed a more unique and personal style than other rhetoricians. I thought it was interesting that, in the Sophists' view, the exploration of opposing views could never be objective.
